Duke Clinical Research Institute and Yale New Haven Health to Each Present Landmark Findings on Reflexion Health’s Flagship Product
LAS VEGAS – At the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) conference, both Duke Clinical Research Institute and Yale New Haven Health will present groundbreaking studies on Reflexion Health’s Virtual Exercise Rehabilitation Assistant (VERA®).
The Duke Clinical Research Institute will present on March 14 during the Adult Reconstruction Knee VI session of AAOS starting at 1:30 p.m. Principal investigator Dr. Janet Prvu Bettger will present the results of the first large-scale randomized controlled clinical trial comparing virtual to traditional physical therapy. The VERITAS study proves that Reflexion Health’s VERA is as safe and effective as traditional physical therapy, while saving $2,745 per patient in a bundled-payment setting.
Yale New Haven Health will present on March 15 at the Practice Management/Rehabilitation session of AAOS that begins at 4 p.m. Dr. Mary O’Connor will present the findings of Yale New Haven Hospital’s Center for Musculoskeletal Care’s experience with New England’s first in-home virtual exercise rehabilitation program helping patients recover more easily, quickly and efficiently from joint replacement surgery through VERA. Among other metrics of recovery, the Yale group found that the VERA platform provided “world class” patient satisfaction (as assessed via NPS scores).
VERA is a digital therapy platform designed by Reflexion Health that integrates a broad menu of prescription rehabilitation exercises, an animated avatar coach, a 3D imaging system for measuring movement and form, functional assessments, an intuitive dashboard for remote clinical review, automatic report generation, and telemedicine capability to deliver a comprehensive, home-based rehabilitation experience. VERA seamlessly educates, demonstrates, measures, analyzes and records patients’ movements at home, with expert coaching along the way, all without the need for patients to apply or wear any sensors or monitoring devices.
“We are thrilled that two prestigious academic organizations are both presenting on VERA at AAOS,” said Joseph Smith, M.D., Ph.D., chief executive officer of Reflexion Health. “The combination of results from prospective randomized controlled trials together with completely complimentary real-world experience should give providers and payors the proof they need for more widespread adoption of VERA. Engaging patients with a convenient and effective solution in the comfort of their own home, while providing similar or better clinical outcomes and dramatically reducing overall healthcare costs, is a win for everyone.”
At AAOS, experience VERA first-hand at booth 2373 to see how it uses 3D motion-capture technology to help coach patients through PT exercises.
