October is National Physical Therapy Month, designated by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as a month-long event to raise public awareness of the many health benefits offered by physical therapy (PT) to people across the United States and around the world.
And that’s a celebration that we’re happy to get behind! We at Reflexion Health are big supporters of the physical therapy occupation. PT is central to our FDA-cleared and clinically proven telerehab technologies, as well as the background of many of the members of our highly accomplished, nationally renowned leadership team. Our solutions are not only built with the consultation of skilled and experienced physical therapists, but they’re also designed to optimize the day-to-day life of PTs in addition to helping patients engage with therapy more conveniently and comfortably.

Physical therapists are an essential and largely undersung part of our healthcare system, helping people recover from surgery or injury, or simply achieve a higher level of health and well being. And there’s a great deal of data to support that claim! After all, PT has been shown to help curb long-term opioid use and help people reduce or quit the use of alcohol, nicotine and illegal drugs. People with lower back pain who use PT have also been shown to be less likely to need more elaborate and expensive healthcare treatment for their pain.
On top of all this, virtual PT is emerging as a way to help therapists treat more patients more effectively, and across long distances, without sacrificing safety or quality of care. Those benefits that have been specifically demonstrated in a recent clinical study of our own Virtual Exercise Rehabilitation Assistant (VERA) that was conducted by the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI).
VERA is a revolutionary merging of technology and PT that uses an animated avatar with validated 3D biometrics to guide people through their post-surgery PT exercises from the comfort of their homes. But make no mistake — the system still requires the guidance of a licensed physical therapist to get results! VERA is designed to help them PTs do their jobs more efficiently, and in a way that offers a richer sense of career satisfaction.
The next wave of physical therapy – virtual PT – is enabling patients to experience the guidance of skilled physical therapists from a remote location, while giving therapists objective data about the performance of their patients throughout their recovery. At Reflexion Health, we’re proud to do our part to help move the profession of physical therapy forward.
