Reflexion Health Expands Stand Tall Program with Open House at Brooks Rehabilitation

According to the CDC, over 2.8 million older adults1 are treated in emergency rooms annually for fall-related injuries. With 20 to 30 percent of those individuals suffering severe injuries, it’s more important than ever to help prevent falls. Brooks Rehabilitation, an expert in providing medical rehabilitation services, understands this critical need and is leading the way by expanding its “Stand Tall” fall prevention program.

Stand Tall, an initiative developed by digital healthcare company Reflexion Health, is a virtual translation of the clinically proven Otago Exercise Program, which has demonstrated a reduction in the risk of falling in high-risk seniors by 35 percent. As part of the Stand Tall initiative, VERA®, a virtual exercise rehabilitation assistant, delivers evidence-based exercise programs via video game technology to improve strength, balance, and engagement in older adults to prevent falls.

“Having the ability to exercise on one’s own time with a virtual coach like VERA allows older adults to build independence, confidence, and ownership of their fall risk management program,” says Tiffany Shubert, PhD, PT and co-lead of a recent Stand Tall study. “Since the launch of the Stand Tall program in 2015, we’ve seen high levels of engagement from seniors age 65 to 97 and significant improvements in their balance in facilities across the U.S.”

Brooks Rehabilitation is proud to expand the availability of the Stand Tall program starting in November with an open house at its Bartram Lakes Assisted Living Facility in Jacksonville, Florida from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on November 1 and 2. These open houses, in partnership with Reflexion Health and the Wellness Team at Brooks, will educate seniors, who have been identified as appropriate candidates based on their mobility, about the benefits, fun and convenience of the Stand Tall program.

“As a recognized leader in providing a system of world-class rehabilitation solutions, we immediately saw the value of launching the Stand Tall program at our facilities,” said Elaine Serio, administrator at Bartram Lakes. “After an initial trial period and positive interest from our senior community, we are excited to expand the availability of this important initiative.”
