With a growing and more active senior population, combined with the fact that every 11 seconds* an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall, there is no better time than now to implement a clinically-proven and easily accessible fall prevention program like Stand Tall.
According to the CDC, over 2.8 million older adults are treated in emergency rooms annually for fall-related injuries. With 20 to 30 percent of those individuals suffering severe injuries, it's more important than ever to help prevent falls. Brooks Rehabilitation, an expert in providing medical rehabilitation services, understands this critical need and is leading the way by expanding its "Stand Tall" fall prevention program.
September 23 marks the first day of fall and is appropriately labeled as National Fall Prevention Awareness Day, designed to bring awareness to one of the most preventable public health problems. According to the CDC, over 2.5 million adults 65 and over are treated in emergency departments annually for fall-related injuries. Twenty to 30 percent of these patients will suffer severe injuries, the most common being traumatic brain injuries, making it difficult to get around or live independently and increasing the risk of early death.
